Lip Enhancement

Most lip fillers are made of HA (Hyaluronic Acid) which also occurs naturally in our body’s joints, eyes and skin. Once injected, the filler binds with water, creating fullness and volume in your lip. Because HA is a naturally occurring substance in our body, it is broken down gradually over time. There are several brands of HA fillers, TGA approved and available in Australia. Each product varies a little in the manufacturing process giving them each unique properties and uses. They’re designed specifically for lip tissue, providing soft, flexible superior results with minimal swelling post treatment. Every lip is different so there is really no one size fits all when it comes to getting the best results for you. As a rule, older lips often require more restoration, which means addressing the surrounding support tissues as well as the volume loss in the lip. While enhancement in younger lips needs to maintain shape and correct proportions in order to avoid Trout Pout. Injections are done with an extremely fine needle or even a cannula, into the lip body, boarder, philtrum and corners of the mouth. The perception can often be that you need to inject lots of filler into your lips, all the time, and it’s just not true! HA filler can last up to 12months in the lips, so the key to a beautiful, natural result is to gradually build up the right amount of filler, allowing the lip tissue to expand, and then tapering off to maintenance treatments. Individual variations will ultimately decide how quickly you break the product down. What this means for a new lip client, is that I’ll typically see them 3-4 times, using 0.5 – 1ml per treatment, in the first 7-9 months so we can slowly build up the right amount of filler for their lips. Once we have that, it’s all about maintenance and my clients will see me once a year for a top up.
