My clients often ask me how they can make their lips fuller, especially as they get a little older. So, this and next month, I’m going to explain some of the science behind subtly sculpting your lips and a case study with a recent client.
As we age, our lips lose volume and the structures around our mouth change.
Your teeth, gums and bones all recede, while loss of skin elasticity creates folds and lines around the mouth. This reduces your lip’s fullness and creates a downward turn in the corners of the mouth which can make you appear cranky or sad, even when you’re not!
My treatment protocol for more mature lips is to use smaller volumes (0.5ml]) to subtly restore lip volume.
A few treatments may be required, about every 6 to 12 weeks in order to gradually build up product and extend longevity.
A great lip enhancement should be undetectable. Your lips, just a little fuller. There should be profile balance, correct proportions, defined shape and support of the surrounding tissues.
Apart from a little post treatment swelling, at no time should you look overfilled / trout pout!
Jackie, 48 said that her although she had never had full lips, she felt her lips had reduced and made her mouth look pinched. She was worried about looking ridiculous with ‘big lips’ and what hubby might say.
I treated Jackie, 8 weeks apart with 0.5ml of HA (Hyaluronic Acid) lip filler. I was able to enhance her top lip to give it more volume and provide balance with her bottom lip.
A 3rd treatment will be required in 8-12 weeks to help maintain these results.
Jackie loves her new lips and hubby was pleasantly surprised when she told him she had them done!
Next month I’ll dive deeper into the science and explain exactly what’s going into your lips, how long it lasts for and why consistency, not volumes produce the best results.
Thanks for reading and have a warm June!
Best regards
Bec
